Goliath's Rest

I'm happy to finally present a personal project I've been working on in my spare time over the summer - Goliath's Rest.

My ultimate goal with this project was to get familiar with the new suite of tools introduced in Unreal Engine 5 - particularly Nanite, Lumen, and the myriad other new features. I also wanted to push myself to finally finish a personal piece after 10 years with various half-finished projects along the way.

I really enjoy making big set pieces, and I really wanted to see if I could make an interesting vista with a singular focus element (the skull), and minimal additional assets to support. This was also an endeavor in lighting - finding the right mood, while also creating a well lit and easy to read space, was a really fun challenge.

Design, sculpts, models, textures, shaders and composition were all done by me.

Birds/Butterfly/Splash FX are all from the marketplace.

Thanks for looking!

Breakdown - Base Color / Roughness / Normals / Lighting Only / Full Composition

Bonus - I wanted to highlight how the creative process evolved over time on this project for me. It took a lot of iteration to find a direction that I felt happiest with - but once that direction was landed on, you can see how quickly things get honed in.
